Closing In Under a Queenslander for Privacy and Space

The Brief

Classic Queenslanders sit up high, which is lovely for the breeze but leaves the whole underside open to view and to anyone wandering past. This home needed that space closed in: private from the street and the neighbours, secure enough to store and use, and still in keeping with the house.

After: the underside closed in with aluminium screening.

The Solution

We screened three sides in spaced aluminium slats, which keep the airflow and light the underside is known for while blocking the direct line of sight in. The fourth side, more exposed, got a more solid screen for full privacy and a wind break. To make the space genuinely usable we built in three car sized gates and two doors, so vehicles, trailers and gear can come and go easily and the whole area locks up.

Before: the open underside, exposed to the street.

Powder coated aluminium means no rust and no repainting, so it stays looking sharp under there for years. The end result is a secure, private zone under the house out of what used to be dead, exposed space. If you have an open underside or carport you would like closed in, we make each screen and gate to suit the run.
